ABOUT COLLAGES AND DIGITAL IMAGES: I like collages. Among my most favorite artists are Jiri Kolar and Miroslav Hornicek. Collage is particularly attractive to me because I cannot draw very well - therefore I can make the pictures from what's available. In a collage, I can also assemble things in a new or unusual manner, in which they are never found in the real world, thus creating new worlds and new possibilities. Computer now can be a helpful tool, by virtue of either making things easier or making more things possible. 1/98 | |
ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHY: I was taking pictures as a small boy, but only recently started a bit more seriously. Being a graduate student now, the amount of my free time limits me to occasional shootings. What I especially appreciate on photography is its ability to capture a moment that happens once and then never again - and to save it to help our weak memory and let us share it with others. Camera lens is also able to extract a small detail from a broad view, as naturally seen by naked eye; by looking at this single frame, we can see things that would normally pass unnoticed, as the colorful theatre of life goes by, changing scenes every eyewink... I think that photography - just as any other art - should do at least one of the following: - bring the viewer new or unusual view of the world; - show beauty; - convey some message, stir up thoughts or feelings.
